Making crayon hearts for Valentine's Day

I have seen these crayons on several blogs and

always wanted to try it, but I thought it would be too messy,

well, I was wrong, it's so easy, specially because

none of my son's crayons had the paper around it.

Here is how we made it:

Peel the paper off the crayons (done by my son throughout the last year or so).
Break in small pieces, not too small or they are going to blend on a very dark unrecognizable color.
Put the pieces in a silicone heart pan.
Put on the oven at 320F for 10 to 15 minutes.
Wait it to cool down (it's chilly and dry today so I just put it outside, it's done in less than 5 min).
Pop them out of the pan.

I just finished a giant take-out box,

a bit challenging but I really enjoyed making it,

I like the clean and crispy look of it;

it's now on its way to a talented photographer.

my husband has a hard time trying to recycle the boxes we get,

because my son and I always have plans for the boxes, big or small.

It always amazes me how long we spend

New product and a decision to make

I finally finished one of the projects from my to do list.

My 4 year old is my best critic, but he didn’t say much when he saw the pillow;

after reassuring him that his opinion was important to me,

and that he could tell me what he thought of the pillow
even if he didn’t like it, he said:
“ I like the rocket ship, but maybe you should put some color…
you can use my markers if you want!”

I love the clean look, but I totally understand his point!

Birdhouse and Busy Time

We have been crazy busy around here,

with good things and

sometimes not so good things,

still we managed a week on the beach,

Yeah! That was a great pause,

although I already think

my batteries need to be recharged again!

the birdhouse for the blue bird.

My son with his new passion for birds

inspired me to do so.

The little thing looks so peaceful

inside his new home,

Well, he found them some time ago,
but last evening this was his choice for bed time.

"The coolest book ever" - he said.

I never gave much thought to this specific book, not until yesterday.

He wanted to show me a play grocery store:

"Can we make it, pleeeease!"

I had other plans for today:

"Well, we don't have the necessary tools to work with wood."

then:

"We can use a cardboard box, then we paint it,

it will be as nice as the one on the book, I promise you!" - he said.

... and that's how he gets me!!!

contacted me about her interest on feature one of my pieces on

"What's on Our Radar this Month".

I got really excited, sometimes it gets a little difficult

to try and sell my own work, it's either that I am not sure

how to price it or don't know if people

are going to like it enough to buy it.

Seeing it on such a nice magazine, for me, is like:

"Keep going! You are doing a nice job!"

And that's exactly what I am doing,

now with even more energy and enthusiasm!

On yet another visit to the National Museum of Natural History

to see the Brachiosaurus,

I saw this beautiful new coral reef exhibit and,

just when I got closer I realized they were crocheted corals,

A Late Valentines Post

For Valentine's Day I wanted to make

something cute and personal for Mr. N's class,

and I came up with

a memory game using their pictures.

I had so much fun making the games,

and so did Mr. N helping me.

We also made rice krispies hearts

and cards, and put them all

into paper bags with

Valentines stamps and stickers.

Hope the children enjoy the game

as much as I did making it.

Seriously thinking about making one

with my family pictures,

that will be a very big memory game.

My beloved little town

As a teenager,

I loved to wake up early in the morning,

on my uncle's farm,

on top of a mountain,

and see the town covered in fog,

I would sit on the porch,

and watch it appears,

like in a fairy-tale,

little by little,

first the church tower,

the houses on the hill,

until I could see the whole

little town.

The place I made friends for life;

memories, I hope never to forget;

where my family

still sleep under the fog,

but I am not there anymore,

to see them waking up.

Busiest and Happiest time of the year

It all starts the beginning of November
with my son's Birthday,

then Thanksgiving, my husband's Birthday and Christmas,

still New Year ahead...
and then me trying to do everything homemade,
from sweet potato biscuits
for dinner with friends
to the decoration...tiring, but yeah, I LOVE IT!

Even managed a few handmade Christmas gifts.

Now the snow is falling hard outside,

and I am having

a cup of coffee and some of the Florentines I baked....

Soooo late with my posts.

A little over a month ago was Mr. N's 4th Birthday,

he is so happy about being 4!

We had a little party, which simply means

we had cars and trucks and traffic signs everywhere.

Hmmm, we also had cupcakes and Brazilian treats!

Mr N. and I made all the decorations, this poster
is our version of a painting by Jill McDonald.
I wanted to include Mr. N,
so I decided to make, instead of buying one,

we then opt for a collage:
many days of crafting, a lot of cutting and glueing.

On a last minute thought I sewed these goodies bags

to match the buildings on the poster.

A few weeks ago my in-laws came for a visit, and they built a very nice sand box to Mr. N, he is having so much fun (so are his friends), with the kiddie pool, an umbrella, and some beach chairs; he plays beach pretty much every day.

The sand box has a big lid, when open has a lock on the fence, so this week our project was to do something with that big blank canvas. We painted a big chalkboard truck.

As soon as Spring started, Mr N asked to go to our local nursery; we planted tomatoes and a couple of herbs last year and he loved. Well, let's say he got carried away this time, so far we planted tomatoes, peas, zucchini, basil, parsley, chives, green onions and 5 different kinds of flowers. We are so enjoying our new hobby :)

Hope you all had a great Easter.
We had a wonderful day, the weather was summer-like, we had some friends over, cooked a nice meal, ate more than enough chocolate, then walked it all off going down to the creek to play with the kids.
I used the bunnies on the picture, they are finger puppets, to decorate the dinning table, I am officially one of the biggest fans of thepurlbee, they always seem to come up with these quick and cute crafts, which for me is perfect for late evenings, when everyone is in bed and I can just relax with something easy and better yet, so adorable.
You will notice something missing on the bunnies, yeah, it looks like I didn't have enough relaxing time :)

I turned out with another brown bag!

Yeah, his name is Max!
He was born a year ago, and when his Dad first saw him, the first question was: Where is his clothes? I promised to make him some, but I am ashamed to say that just now, when Easter is around the corner again, I realized Max is still waiting, or rather his Dad. I got some baby clothes left behind, traced some kind of pattern, sewed, and cut, it took me 10 minutes!

Thinking Spring

I have to say, I was never a fan of roses, but when I saw this tutorial at the purl bee I knew I had to try it, they seemed so pretty, so far I have made a dozen roses, I can't stop making them. I asked me son to hold them so I could shoot some pics, he was very helpful, held them still, but after the shooting he dropped the rose inside his cup of orange juice, good thing I enjoy making them, because now I have one less rose!

I love snow, but this is not funny anymore! Well, it makes everything worse being with a bad cold. I can only take pictures from my windows, and can't do much inside either because little one also has a bad cold, so all I do is taking care of us all and make sure we have nice homemade food to get us through this cold.

These are the only things I could accomplish in a week: another bug mobile and a pair of bunny slippers that didn't fit Mr. N. :(

Life is getting back to normal, whatever normal might mean. Between Thanksgiving and New Year, we cooked, baked and ate quite a lot, spent a lot of together time, played on the snow...and ate some more!

Happiness is when someone truly enjoys something you made with love.

This is a picture a happy customer sent me, after several e-mails to define the right color and precise number of cars, I made the cars and she put it all together for her baby. I love how it turned out. It's all on her delightful blog Chocolate & Wine.

I just love making bags, and cases, and totes, I guess there is something to do with my obsession for organization, it just feels like everything has its own place, and therefore will be easy and quick to be found when needed, if just my husband had the same idea about organization!

Those are some of the bags I made, to carry toys to a play date, as a gift to a dear friend, to carry my crafts wherever I can... lots of browns and blues... hmmm, never thought of that before, but they do go well together, don't they?

A Little World Village

A Little World Village is a happy place, somewhere close by.
The villagers live a simple life; they work, play, learn, teach, and dream; they are happy and content little people.
They decided to create a few things just to show us we can also have a simple and happy life, their inspiration is the love they have for each other and for nature.
They started by making baby's toys, which they put a little magic on, hoping it will spread when the baby plays.
As people started getting curious about their lifestyle, they created these little houses that are just like the ones they live in. Who knows what they are going to create next!

This is a really old one, about 14 years-old! That was my papier-mâché phase, I made figures, boxes, lamp shades, you name it. Most of them are gone, either broken or consumed by mold. I also used many different recipes, and as you can tell this seems to be the best one, it looks like was made last week. Now is the sad part, I can't find the recipe, it has been so long and after 6 different homes, who knows where it is? Promise to post it here if I ever find it!

I made the granny blanket on my lonely year in Germany, yes I spent a whole year by myself there, without even speak German, wasn't that bad I should say, I read about 32 books, crocheted a big blue blanket, created a website to sell my handmade greeting cards, walked hundreds of miles on the forest by our house, and traveled some...hmmm not bad!

This is Mr. N, my Quality Control Manager, those little toes follow me all day long, he is the best, who else would tell me my giraffe looks like a horse, my hippo like a pig!

No wonder he has a big basket full of first, the first giraffe, first fire-engine; some failed the quality control test and some were so nice he couldn't part with. Sometimes when I think I am almost done creating a new mobile, I have to start all over again, because the pieces are "confiscated" by my Manager...oh! the joys of motherhood :)

We are a little slow, but we will get there.
This charming snail is part of a garden mobile, a dragonfly, a bumblebee, a grasshopper, and a ladybug will be his friends. They are pretty much finished, just need to put them all together.

I just finished a few onesies, and am very pleased with the results. I adapted the designs I created for the mobiles, and it turned out just the way I wanted, very cute...yeah!

The idea of A Little World started with these little critters, well, I had made a mobile for a friend before, but only with these little guys I realized how much I enjoyed creating them, I just had to start selling them so I could make much more. Soon my notebook was filled with requests from my 2 year old, and I was hand sewing butterflies, sheep, trucks, and whales.
